Ceuso is the epitome of family collaboration. In the early ’90s, during the years of the great Sicilian enological revolution, 3 brothers Antonino, Vincenzo and Giuseppe Melia were joined by brother-in-law Francesco Vallone in their quest to make their dream come true: producing an exceptional Sicilian red wine. This is how Ceuso was born.

It all began in their garage (they were indeed referred to as garagistes by a well-known guide) with an initial production of around 6,000 bottles. In 1999, they bought an old wine baglio dating from 1860, which they brought back to its original splendor while adding state-of-the-art vinification technology.

As coordinator of the IRVV (Istituto Regionale della Vite e del Vino) in Marsala, Vincenzo had worked closely with the famous enologist Giacomo Tachis, who became his friend and mentor during Tachis consultancy for the IRVV. His impact is visible in some of the wines which are blends of indigenous and international varieties. The first vintage of their famous blend Ceuso was in 1995.

Ageing the wines in glass-lined cement vats is a true conviction shared by everyone at Ceuso; this guarantees the production of whole, unfiltered wines that express the fertile, black soil of Alcamo/Segesta in all its glorious facets.

Today 120,000 bottles a year are produced from 50 hectares of vineyards in the area of Alcamo and Calatafimi Segesta. Antonino works the vineyards, his brother Vincenzo is the viticultural specialist, Giuseppe is the on-site enologist and Giuseppe handles the books.
