Sicilia IGP Syrah ‘Schietto’

Tasting Notes

‘Schietto’ is a line of single-varietal wines. The word means ‘sincere, straightforward’ and Francesco Spadafora aims at bringing through the best possible representation of each varietal. Syrah is a personal favourite grape for Francesco Spadafora and he is known for making some of the best Syrahs in Italy and in Sicily where it thrives in the warm, dry climate.

Spadafora’s ‘Schietto’ Syrah is made with 100% organic grapes. Compared to the winery’s entry-level Alhambra Syrah, grapes for the Schietto Syrah are sourced from a sunnier plot and with much lower yields per plant which ensure higher concentrations of flavors for a wine to withstand 12 months ageing in used barriques (previously used for the flagship Syrah ‘Sole dei Padri’).

Deep purply red in color. There are hints of berry fruits on the nose, luscious with an elegant bouquet. Despite the muscular alcohol content, the wine is wonderfully balanced with supple tannins counterbalancing its silky smoothness. Pairs well with eggplant caponata, all sorts of roasted meats, game and aged cheeses.
