Bolgheri Rosso DOC ‘Ocra’

Tasting Notes
Bolgheri, on the Tuscan coast just south of Livorno, is one of Italy’s most prestigious vineyard areas. ‘Ocra’, a word of Etruscan origin meaning ‘blood of the earth’, is the perfect nickname for this classic Bordeaux-style blend born from the vineyards in Bolgheri. The estate of Le Pavoniere in Bolgheri was acquired by the Strozzi family in 1999. It borders the famous ‘Bolgherese’ road along which all of the famous vineyards are located. It covers approximately 20 hectares and it is planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Syrah.
Ocra is a blend of 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Cabernet Franc and 40% Merlot: Vinified with careful control of the fermentation temperature and matured for 12 months in oak barriques, this wine represents the perfect combination of complexity and easy drinking.
Deep ruby red with an intense bouquet of small black fruits with a slight spiciness of leather and tobacco. Full bodied with smooth, silky tannins that lead to an elegant finish. This hearty the perfect partner for variety of dishes: hearty first courses, meat dishes such as roasted pork, game or a juicy steak (bistecca fiorentina).
Bolgheri ‘Ocra’ replaces Bolgheri ‘Campo al Capriolo’ that is no longer in production.
