Barbera d’Alba DOC ‘Costa Bruna’

Tasting Notes

Old-vine 100% Barbera, single-vineyard from very old hillside vines, planted in 1930 with a portion replanted in 1995, the newer vines were obtained from massal selection of the old stock.

Deep, intense purple-red in color with a complex floral aroma and hints of strawberry, cherry, and spices. This is a full-bodied wine with crisp fresh acidity, enjoyable both while young and also when more mature. An ideal wine for the entire meal, it is a perfect match for pasta, soups, and meat pies. It can also be used as an ingredient in sauces and meat casseroles.

Harvest takes place from the 20th to 30th of September. The grapes are immediately destemmed and crushed, then macerated on the skins for 10 to 12 days at controlled temperatures.

Aging

Malolactic fermentation is completed before winter sets in. The wine then matures in oak casks for about 12 months and is bottled without filtering.
