Aglianico del Vulture DOC ‘Arberesko’

Tasting Notes

Arberesko is the big brother to Siir. It refers to the name of the ancient Greek-Albanian population of the region who cultivated vines there in the 1400’s. 100% Aglianico from older vines, this is the perfect example of why Aglianico is often referred to as the Barolo of the South.

Generous in aromas of red berry fruit and stylish floral hints. Elegant but also gutsy and determined on the palate supported by sweet tannins and minerality deriving from the volcanic soils. Enjoy with hearty meat dishes, roasts, bbq and braised meat.

Type of Cultivation

Plants are kept at 50 cm from the ground with one-sided Guyot system. High density planting (6,000 to 8,000 plants per hectar) is common and has historical roots in the Vulture area.


Harvest is carried out manually and each vineyard is harvested separately. Soft pressing and fermentation is done in stainless steel over a preriod of 8-18 days. Yeasts are indigenous.


Aged for 12 months in used Tonneau and Barrique. Not clarified, just filtered before bottling.
